Dance Portrait Photography

Where movement meets storytelling

Dance is more than technique, positions and perfect lines. It is expression, dedication, personality and the journey each dancer has taken.

My dance portrait sessions combine the beauty of movement with the emotion of portrait photography, creating images that celebrate both the dancer and the person behind the performance.

Set against the natural beauty of the beach, these sessions are designed to capture graceful movement, strength, individuality and the quiet moments in between.

Rather than traditional studio portfolio images, I create a collection of photographs that feel artistic, natural and timeless — images that showcase your dancer’s passion while also creating meaningful portraits that are timeless.

Why the Beach?

The beach is a beautiful setting for dance photography and for natural timeless photographs of your child. The soft blues of the ocean, neutral sand and open skies create a simple, timeless backdrop that keeps the focus on the dancer.

The open space allows dancers to move freely, while the natural light before sunset adds a soft feel to the images, without busy backgrounds. Rather than creating traditional studio dance portraits, my beach sessions capture your child in a relaxed environment, combining beautiful light with movement to create photographs that feel natural, elegant and personal.

What to Wear

What you wear will depend on your style of dance and the look you'd like to achieve. Many dancers choose to wear a favourite costume, while others prefer a simple leotard or practice wear for a more natural look. White and light colours look best on the beach and best to avoid busy patterns as they can be distracting.

Bare feet work beautifully on the beach, although ballet shoes, pointe shoes or contemporary footwear can also be incorporated if you'd like (Pointe requiring hard surface on nearby rocks).Generally there is 3 to 4 different looks

What to Expect

Dance sessions are relaxed and enjoyable, with plenty of time to explore different poses and movements. We'll begin with a few simple portraits before moving into a variety of dance poses and action shots.

You're welcome to suggest movements you'd love to capture, and I'll also guide you throughout the session to make the most of the light and location.
